Outdoor Education Teacher Training

AoFAQ Level 3 Award in Education and Training (QCF)

This course is specifically aimed at Outdoor Professionals who want to improve their working practice by gaining a professional teaching qualification that can lead to Higher Education Teaching Qualifications. The sylabus will specfically include teaching outdoor subjects in outdoor environments.

Level 3 Award in Education and Training (QCF) replaces the Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS Levels 3 and 4). This new qualification is the result of a review by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS).

This Award provides an introduction to teaching to meet the needs of new and trainee teachers .

This qualification consists of 3 mandatory units and includes an exciting curriculum to provide the underpinning knowledge and skills to prepare students to start or enhance their teaching careers.

The course will consist of 3 Units and a total of 12 Credits

UNIT 1 - Understanding the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training.
3 Credits - Assessed by an assignment of approx. 1500 words.

Unit 2 - Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training
6 Credits - Assessed by a 20 minute microteach +
3 x 20 minute peer teaching observations and self evaluation of micro-teaching session + An assignment of approx. 1500 words.

Unit 3 - Understanding assessment in education and training.
3 credits - Assessed by an assignment of approx 1500 words.

Progression following successful completion of this course:

Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training
Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training
(including special pathway:
English (Literacy)
English (ESOL)
English (Literacy and ESOL)
Mathematics (Numeracy)
Teaching disabled learners
Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vopcational Acheivement
Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance.

Teachers can also apply for Assiciate Teacher Learning and Skills Status (ATLS) or
Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status (QTLS)

Course Timetable

48 Guided learning hours excluding project or private study. Course will be held as a minimum of 6 x 8 hour sessions, 5 of which will be classroom based. Students are expected to undertake sufficient private research and study in order to satisfy course requirements. Projects must be completed at agreed times.



Minimum of 10 persons per course
